[COVIDWatch]: Does this ‘Omicron’ building really exist along Bendemeer Road?

By December 8, 2021 COVID-19, Satire

We came across this post on Facebook page Beh Chia Lor – Singapore Road:

For context, Beh Chia Lor is a page that typically shares photos, videos, or posts of accidents on Singapore roads and also interesting happenings around Singapore.

In the post, we see a photo of what appears to be a building signage with the word “Omicron” on it. We also see the address “990 Bendemeer Road” on the signage, along with a watermark of a Yahoo email address.

Omicron is, of course, the most recent COVID-19 variant of concern.

Rather obvious satire

Even without doing any Google search or image forensics, it’s quite obvious that the ‘O’ on the signage looks rather out of place due to its awkward placement, resolution, and colour tone in comparison to the rest of the words in the photo.

When we did a search of the address on the signage, we see that it actually belongs to Micron Semiconductor Asia Operations Pte Ltd.

Therefore, while it is uncertain who the creator of the edited image was and what their intentions were, this is an obvious example of satire at play.
