Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivered this year’s edition of the National Day Rally speech on 29 August 2021 and touched on topics related to race and religion, low-wage workers as well as anxieties over foreign work-pass holders. This poll explored the impact on speech viewers’ perceptions on the issues addressed.
70% of polled respondents had a positive reaction to the speech overall, with 84% feeling that the policies proposed will move Singapore in the right direction.
However, 72% also polled that they felt PM Lee has not paid enough attention to more important problems in Singapore. Issues like the influx of foreign labour, ministers’ high salaries, and unfair labour practices were listed as topics they wished were addressed.
