These placards were displayed on large screens and incorporated into a coordinated LED wristband light show. Several MPs participated, with most messages focusing on nation-building, unity, or community well-being, not promotional or ticket-related requests.

A reverse image search traced the altered image to the Facebook page TMSG (The Monitor SG), an alternative media outlet known for “unfiltered” entertainment news. The outlet’s own description hints at its satirical nature: “irritating people, one day at a time.” Multiple memes using the same Ng Chee Meng image have since appeared online, based on a blank template posted by the Instagram meme account sgvirality, which encouraged followers to create their own captions, likely the spark for this particular meme trend.

The unaltered image is available on Ng Chee Meng’s verified Facebook page. In the original, his placard reads: “I want to champion better lives and livelihoods for all Singaporeans,” consistent with the tone and intent of other MPs’ messages.

While unrelated to this doctored image, Ng Chee Meng has faced real controversies in recent months, which may explain why he became a meme target. In short, while the backdrop and setting in the image are authentic, the specific message depicted is fabricated. The actual NDP placard segment aimed to foster unity and community spirit, not to promote or request tickets for sporting events.
