The following claim was posted on X:
The post, which has 3.3 million views, shows a comparison of the decor in the oval office during the Biden administration and the current Trump administration. The claim is captioned, “it’s like a Dollar Tree version of Versailles”, poking fun at the gold-drenched decor that Trump had presumably incorporated in his office.
To investigate the claim, we conducted reverse image searches of both images in the post to uncover their provenance. Both images were found to be authentic. The top image, of former President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was most likely a still from a video posted by the Associated Press in July 2024.
The bottom image featuring Trump and the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa on the other hand, was most likely taken from a livestream from the official White House YouTube account that was posted recently, on 16 July 2025.
Various news outlets had previously reported on Trump’s redecoration of the oval office. Newsweek described the space as having become a maximalist showcase during Trump’s second term. An article from the Wall Street Journal suggested that the redecoration was being done to make the Oval Office look more like Mar-a-Lago, his members-only club based in Florida.
Interestingly, the gilded decorations were only added at the start of his second Presidential term. An image from September 2020, taken during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showed that Trump’s office decor remained understated close to the end of his first term, which ended in January 2021.

Based on the evidence we found then, it is true that the pictures depict the past and present decor of the Oval Office. The “golden” makeover was done at the start of Trump’s second Presidential term and was done to more closely resemble his Mar-a-Lago residence.
