We came across this post on Facebook:

The post, which contains a screenshot of a page from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) website alludes to Ivermectin being present on the website under the “antiviral therapy” section. The website states: “Ivermectin is an antiparasitic drug that is being evaluated to treat Covid-19”.

When we looked at the website for ourselves however, it was clear that the page made no mention of Ivermectin being recommended as a treatment for Covid-19. The “antiviral therapy” section on the NIH site simply serves as a database for antiviral medications that are currently being evaluated in clinical trials. Clicking on the Ivermectin section on the original page, it redirects the user to a page that describes the use of ivermectin as not being approved for the treatment of Covid-19.

 The agency said its recommendation is based on recently published randomised controlled trials that showed Ivermectin had “no clinical benefit” for the treatment of Covid-19.

It is false then that the NIH has started recommending Ivermectin to treat Covid-19. Separately, The World Health Organization and the European Medicines Agency have also advised against the use of Ivermectin to treat Covid-19, except in clinical trials.
