Black Dot Research polled 200 respondents across Singapore for their thoughts on different aspects of the Oxley Road Saga and the recent news about Lee Hsien Yang’s asylum status in the United Kingdom.
Sentiments about the nature of the Oxley Road Saga lean towards it being a mostly or fully private affair, although some believe it is equally weighted both ways.A majority believe that the Oxley Road Saga should not involve the government and that the current government does not have a responsibility to resolve it.However, a significant majority agree that the house at Oxley Road should be demolished.A majority are aware of Lee Hsien Yang’s asylum status in the U.K. When considering statements from LHY and the Singapore Government in response, respondents appear to view both with some scepticism.There is trust and confidence amongst a significant portion of respondents that Singapore’s judicial system can fairly and impartially resolve cases that are politically charged.Across the board, there is a level of ambivalence or neutrality amongst a portion of respondents when it comes to both the Oxley Road Saga and recent news about Lee Hsien Yang. A majority indicated neutrality or lack of interest in the eventual outcomes of the Oxley Road Saga, alongside a lack of intent to follow news or updates on Lee Hsien Yang.
